CJP Afridi summons maiden JCP meeting to discuss formation of constitutional benches
1. 13-member JCP to also discuss establishment of secretariat of commission on November 5, as per agenda
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi has called the inaugural meeting of the 13-member Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) for November 5. The agenda will focus on the nomination of judges for constitutional benches in the Supreme Court.
This announcement came shortly after National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq nominated four parliamentarians from both the Senate and National Assembly, including one female representative, to the JCP, finalizing the five parliamentary appointments.
The Speaker formally submitted these nominations to the Supreme Judicial Commission (SJC) in a letter.
The meeting, scheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, will take place at the Supreme Court building, as per the JCP secretary’s notification. The agenda includes setting up a commission secretariat, discussing nominations for Supreme Court constitutional benches, and addressing other matters with the CJP's approval.
