An aircraft carrying Malawi's Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima and nine others has gone missing, according to a statement from Malawi's presidency on Monday. Efforts by aviation authorities to contact the aircraft have been unsuccessful since it went off the radar.
The aircraft, a Malawi Defense Force plane, departed from the capital, Lilongwe, at 0917 local time (0717 GMT). Search and rescue operations are currently underway to locate the missing aircraft and its occupants. Vice President Chilima is 51 years old.
