Section 144 imposed in Punjab amid security concerns
1.
The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province for seven days, citing security concerns. This decision, taken by the Home Department, comes in response to a call from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for a nationwide protest at 2pm to protect the sanctity of the vote.
Section 144 will be in effect from June 21 to 27, during which all kinds of gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, processions, protests, meetings, and similar activities are banned throughout Punjab. The Home Department's order emphasizes that the current situation regarding public order and security threats makes any public gathering a potential target for terrorists and miscreants, posing a serious threat to law and order.
