In an interview with Vanity Fair, Gomez shared that she is unable to carry her own children due to medical issues. The singer and actress, who has been vocal about her battle with lupus, explained that her health conditions would make pregnancy risky for both her and the baby.
"I haven’t ever said this, but unfortunately, I can’t carry my own children," Gomez revealed.
The Only Murders in the Building star admitted that coming to terms with this was difficult, saying, "That was something I had to grieve for a while," and adding that it’s "not necessarily the way I envisioned it."
She went on to explain that her health poses "a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby's in jeopardy."
Despite these challenges, Gomez remains optimistic about starting a family. "I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me," she said.
Gomez, who is currently in a relationship with music producer Benny Blanco, expressed her excitement for the future. "I'm excited for what that journey will look like, but it'll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don't care. It'll be mine. It'll be my baby."
She also emphasized that family has always been her priority, even before meeting Blanco, saying, "Before I met my boyfriend, I was single for five years, aside from a few dates. And I thought, 'If this is how things are going to be, what’s the most important thing to me? Family.'"
