Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has highlighted a significant decrease in inflation, which dropped to 9.6% in August 2024. He noted that experts are predicting further declines in inflation for the current month, attributing this positive trend to the impact of recent economic reforms.

In a dinner speech honoring parliamentarians from various political parties, the Prime Minister condemned the “inappropriate language” used during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) power show in Islamabad on Sunday. The rally, led by PTI, featured intense speeches and controversial remarks from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, who reportedly used offensive language against opponents and journalists, without providing evidence for his accusations.

Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the importance of political stability and unity in overcoming the country’s economic challenges. He acknowledged that terrorism, which had been largely eradicated under former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has started to resurge in some areas, but vowed to address the issue once again.

The Prime Minister credited the recent economic progress to efforts initiated by his government since April 2022, which have not only stabilized the economy but also set it on a path of growth. He recalled that when his administration took over in 2018, inflation was already in single digits.

Attendees at the dinner included members of the National Assembly and Senate from allied parties. The Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to easing the problems of the people and ensuring that economic reforms benefit ordinary citizens. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to provide relief on power tariffs for low-income segments and to reduce government expenditures through right-sizing and downsizing.
