Parts of Karachi receive light to heavy rain after days of scorching heat

Karachi experienced heavy to light rainfall on Friday after enduring several days of extreme heat, which resulted in two deaths due to heatstroke. The areas that received rain include Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Surjani, North Karachi, New Karachi, Malir, Cantt, Mosmiyat, Shahrae Faisal, Bahadurabad, Tipu Sultan, Gulshan-e-Maymar, and Gadap.
The city has been suffering from a heatwave, exacerbated by frequent, unannounced power outages. Temperatures had soared to 40.5°C, with the heat index making it feel like a scorching 56°C. July has seen particularly high temperatures, with nights reaching up to 32°C.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are affecting southern parts of the country, and a westerly wave is impacting the northern regions. The forecast predicts rain and thundershowers in Sindh, south Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Balochistan, Potohar Region, Islamabad, and Kashmir, with heavy rainfall expected in south Punjab and lower Sindh.
