Pakistan Railways announces ticket price cuts for passenger trains
1. Reduction in fare prices to be effective from August 3
Pakistan Railways has announced a reduction in ticket prices for all categories of passenger trains across the country, effective from August 3. The fare cut aims to make train travel more affordable and accessible to the public. Specifically, AC class tickets will see a reduction of Rs100 to Rs150, while economy class tickets will be reduced by Rs50.
This decision follows a recent reduction in petroleum product prices by the federal government. Notably, just weeks earlier, on July 18, Pakistan Railways had implemented a 1% fare hike for all trains, including mail, express, intercity, and passenger trains, as part of a fare rationalisation effort. Additionally, freight and goods train fares were increased by 2%.
In a related development, Pakistan Railways collected over Rs76 million from ticket-less passengers during a crackdown over the last six months, with the help of railway police and train staffers. Around 59,143 passengers were found traveling without tickets, and the collected amount has been deposited in the official bank account of the department.
