'Never seen anything like this': Elon Musk after Cybertruck blast claims life
1. FBI says potential explosive device was found in the vehicle used in that attack
A Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday, resulting in one fatality and several injuries. Tesla CEO Elon Musk expressed his shock over the incident, stating that he had never seen anything like it before.
At a press conference, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill confirmed that a person was found dead inside the 2024 model-year Cybertruck, while seven others sustained minor injuries from the blast.
Musk, in a post on X, stated that Tesla’s senior team was actively investigating the fire. "The whole Tesla senior team is investigating this matter right now," Musk wrote, adding, "We’ve never seen anything like this."
According to McMahill, the Cybertruck had arrived at the Trump Hotel at 8:40 a.m. local time. Authorities were taking extra precautions, mindful of a recent attack in New Orleans earlier that day, where the FBI had identified a potential explosive device. "As you can imagine, with an explosion here on iconic Las Vegas Boulevard, we are taking all the precautions necessary to keep our community safe. We're looking for secondary devices," McMahill said, assuring that there appeared to be no further immediate threats to the public.
Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump Organization and son of president-elect Donald Trump, addressed the incident on X, noting, "Earlier today, a reported electric vehicle fire occurred in the porte cochère of Trump Las Vegas."
The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board had previously launched an investigation in 2024 into a crash and fire involving a Tesla electric semi-truck in California.
Experts say that electric vehicle fires, including those involving Tesla cars, behave differently from traditional vehicle fires, often burning longer and being more challenging to extinguish.
