King Charles’ unique Christmas guests absent this year
1. King Charles draws curtain on the corgi Christmas tradition
King Charles hosted a grand Christmas celebration at Sandringham this week, bringing the royal family together in their festive best.
However, this year’s festivities saw the absence of some unexpectedly “special guests”—the late Queen Elizabeth II’s beloved corgis.
Former royal chef Darren McGrady revealed that the late Queen had a touching tradition of treating her corgis to a royal Christmas dinner. These pampered pups dined on gourmet dishes such as rabbit, beef, or chicken, accompanied by cabbage and rice, all meticulously prepared by the palace chefs.
At the height of her reign, Queen Elizabeth II had up to 12 corgis enjoying this festive feast. But with King Charles now leading the royal household, this charming tradition has quietly come to an end.
When Queen Elizabeth passed in 2022, her last two corgis, Muick and Sandy, were entrusted to Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. This year, however, both Andrew and Sarah were notably absent from Sandringham’s celebrations, meaning the corgis missed out on the royal holiday gathering.
For decades, the late Queen’s cherished dogs were an integral part of the Christmas celebrations, bringing an extra dose of joy to Sandringham. Now living at the Duke and Duchess of York’s Windsor estate, the corgis’ absence this year marked the quiet conclusion of a heartwarming holiday tradition that once added a unique charm to the royal festivities.
