**KARACHI:** The Sindh government has announced a new grading policy aimed at modernizing the education system for matriculation and intermediate exams. According to a notification from Muhammad Abbas Baloch, Secretary of Boards and Universities, students in Sindh will receive grades instead of marks and positions, making it the first province in Pakistan to implement this system.

The new grading policy will take effect in 2025. Under this system, traditional marks and positions will be replaced with grades. Notably, the practice of awarding first, second, and third positions will be eliminated.

The Inter-Board Coordination Committee (IBCC) has developed a grading formula that assigns grades based on percentage scores. For example, students who achieve a score of 95% or higher will receive an A++ grade, while those scoring between 90% and 94% will earn an A+. Other grade assignments include B++ (Very Good) for scores between 80-84%, B+ (Good) for 75-79%, B (Fair) for 70-74%, and C (Above Average) for scores between 60-69%.

While Sindh is leading the way with this new grading system, provinces like Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan have yet to adopt similar reforms.
