Imran Khan gives green signal for talks with govt: Barrister Gohar

Rawalpindi: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar announced that the party's founder, Imran Khan, has signaled his approval for initiating talks with the government. Speaking to journalists outside the Adiala jail, Gohar emphasized that the need for dialogue has become pressing as the political divide widens. He mentioned that Khan is open to reconciliation and is ready to forgive past grievances to pave the way for constructive discussions.
Gohar clarified that while the Supreme Court's advice on negotiation is being considered, the decision to engage in talks is entirely PTI's own. He noted that PTI had not sought the Supreme Court's intervention but will respond to its proposal for negotiations if necessary.
The PTI chairman also highlighted that the party would consult with allies, including Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai, before starting negotiations. Gohar stressed that PTI's initiative to negotiate should not be misconstrued as a deal, but rather as a step towards breaking the current political impasse and improving the situation.
This move comes shortly after Imran Khan indicated a shift from his previously rigid stance, instructing party leaders to foster connections both within and outside the Parliament to reduce ongoing political tensions. PTI's leadership has been directed to engage with various political parties and strengthen relations with the ruling coalition.
Gohar mentioned that during a meeting with lawyers, Khan expressed concerns about being restricted from communicating with his sons. The decision to pursue dialogue was influenced by Khan's recent interaction with Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, who suggested that Khan participate in parliamentary processes to contribute to resolving the nation's issues.
Additionally, sources revealed that Khan has authorized a three-member committee within PTI to establish contacts with the establishment, further underscoring the party's commitment to dialogue and reconciliation.
