Sources at the hospital reported that the children's condition worsened due to a lack of oxygen.
The deceased children were identified as Areeba, Abbas, Javed, Ali, Sadia Riaz, Asim, and Sarwar. They belonged to Okara, Kamalia, Bonga Hayat, Noor Shah, and other areas of Punjab.
A massive fire broke out in the Children's Ward of Sahiwal Teaching Hospital on Saturday morning, reportedly caused by a short circuit. The hospital staff evacuated the children to a safe location, while some parents took their children home.
Five fire brigade vehicles participated in the operation to extinguish the blaze.
