Beijing is ready to be Washington's friend, partner: Chinese president
1. This will benefit not only the two countries, but world," says Chinese president
**BEIJING:** Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended a conciliatory gesture to the United States, expressing Beijing's willingness to be a friend and partner to Washington.
"China is ready to be a partner and friend with the United States. This collaboration will benefit not only our two countries but the entire world," Xi stated in a letter for the 2024 annual awards dinner of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, as reported by CCTV on Wednesday.
He emphasized that the relationship between the two nations is among the most significant bilateral relationships globally, impacting the future and destiny of humanity.
The two countries have faced tensions over national security issues, ongoing trade disputes, and China's activities in the South China Sea, as well as increased military exercises around Taiwan.
Trade relations have deteriorated over the past year, focusing on concerns such as restrictions on electric vehicles and advanced semiconductors.
"China has always approached its relationship with the U.S. based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, and has consistently believed that the success of China and the United States presents mutual opportunities," President Xi added.
