However, one aspect of the ceremony left fans disappointed—the absence of Lord of the Rings actor Bernard Hill from the In Memoriam tribute.

Viewers tuning in to BBC One were shocked to see that the Titanic star—who passed away in May 2024—was not included in the segment honoring industry figures who had passed in the past year.

The tribute was led by Jurassic Park actor Jeff Goldblum, who performed As Time Goes By on the piano as a video montage honored legendary figures such as Dame Maggie Smith, David Lynch, and Kris Kristofferson.

Fans took to social media to express their outrage.

One X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, “Seriously, no Bernard Hill in the memorial?? Absolutely disgusting omission.”

Another commented, “BAFTA can go get f**ed for leaving Bernard Hill out of the tribute.”*

Following the backlash, the BAFTAs responded, clarifying that the esteemed actor had already been honored in last year's BAFTA TV Awards In Memoriam segment.

For those unfamiliar, the 79-year-old actor had an illustrious career, appearing in films such as True Crime, Titanic, Gandhi, and Boys from the Blackstuff.

Bernard Hill passed away in May 2024, with tributes pouring in from the film and television industry worldwide.
