T20 World Cup 2024: West Indies crush US by 9 wickets in Super 8 clash

The West Indies delivered a dominant performance, defeating the United States by nine wickets in the Super 8 round of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on Saturday.

The United States set a target of 129 runs, which the West Indies chased down in just 10.5 overs, significantly boosting their net run rate. Earlier, the Windies won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Batting first, the US team was bowled out for 128 in 19.5 overs, thanks to a clinical bowling display by the home side. Roston Chase was the standout bowler with figures of 3-19 in four overs, while Andre Russell also impressed, taking 3-31 in 3.5 overs.

Opener Andries Gous top-scored for the US with 29 runs off 16 balls. Nitish Kumar contributed 20 runs, and Ali Khan remained unbeaten on 14 runs from six balls.

Both teams had lost their respective opening Super 8 matches, making this contest a virtual do-or-die situation.
