**KHYBER:** Two policemen and a civilian were martyred in a terrorist gun attack on a police checkpoint in Khyber district's Charwazagai area, according to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police.

District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Abbas informed Geo News that terrorists attacked the police checkpoint on the Pak-Afghan highway near Landi Kotal Bazar. The attack resulted in the martyrdom of police personnel, including Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Alamzeb, and injuries to one policeman and a civilian. The terrorists fled the scene following the attack.

The civilian casualties were passersby, the police reported. The injured were initially taken to Landi Kotal Hospital for immediate medical assistance and later transferred to Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar due to their critical condition.

The police station attacked by the terrorists was located three kilometers from Landi Kotal Bazar on the Pak-Afghan highway. In response to the incident, security was heightened throughout the district, DPO Abbas stated.

This attack occurs amid a surge in terrorist activities in Pakistan, particularly in the KP and Balochistan provinces. According to a Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) Annual Security report, the second quarter of 2024 saw 380 violence-linked fatalities and 220 injuries from 240 incidents of terror attacks and counter-terror operations. KP and Balochistan, which share borders with Afghanistan, accounted for 92% of all fatalities and 87% of attacks, with KP suffering 67% and Balochistan 25% of all fatalities in the second quarter of 2024.

In response to rising terrorism, including cross-border infiltration, the federal government recently approved the launch of "Azm-e-Istehkam," a renewed national anti-terror campaign as part of the National Action Plan.
